Vista Codec Pack V5.7.9 (yes, it works on Windows XP)

Postby dumpydooby » Fri Jan 16, 2009 6:57 pm

Vista Codec Package V5.7.9

Multimode Installer - 16.1MB
MD5: cec8ebe04c3d1901b55806c187a209c6

Installs From: svcpack.inf
Installs To: %PROGRAMFILES%\Multimedia\VistaCodecPackage
Shortcut: Programs\Multimedia\
Last Updated: 20100728
Notes: The following changes have been made:
  • Uninstaller shortcut has been removed
  • Start Menu shortcut structure has been changed around a bit.
  • By default, Internet Exploder won't launch post setup and Bing Toolbar will not install.
  • Renamed Start Menu shortcuts that contained the word "Vista" and replaced with "VCP" (or something similar). The reason for this is because I think that some users might get thrown off by the word "Vista" on their XP machine, and I didn't want the headache of explaining it to them.
Parameters: The following parameters are all optional:
  • mpeg2=0 ffdshow=0 real=0 haali=0 gabest=0 shortcuts=0 vobsub=0 conflicts=0 xvid=0 icons=0 thumbs=0 ogg=0
  • Example: vcpack5x.exe -ai shortcuts=0

Description: VistaCodecPackage is a package of codecs that is compatible with both Windows XP and Windows Vista. It contains most codecs out there that one might need for media playback. The goal of the package is to create a comprehensive but concise package that will clean up any codec problems, and properly register non-hacked original codecs with Windows so that they can later be used by any installed media player that relies on external codecs (e.g., Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player).
Features:
  • If there is a possibility of a conflict, the package will uninstall the compromising codec or package prior to installing itself.
  • Developer is extremely active and pushes updates constantly to deliver the most up-to-date codecs for users.

QuickTime 7.6 Lite v1.1.4 (no longer being developed)

Multimode Installer - 10.3MB
MD5: 23682634aec96371490208d6cce6f706
Important: This is the final version of QuickTime Lite that Shark007 will release.

Installs From: svcpack.inf
Installs To: %PROGRAMFILES%\QuickTime
Shortcut: Programs\Multimedia\Codec Tools
Last Updated: 20090116
Notes: Two version numbers represent the version of Apple QuickTime, and the version of Shark007's installer. For example, Shark007 can push an update of this version of QuickTime Lite, but the actual version of Apple QuickTime does not need to be updated (perhaps Shark007 found something to update in the installer itself, or a runtime, or something else that isn't relatedto Apple QuickTime).

License: Freeware
Description: This version of QuickTime does not include Image Viewer, Java components, QuickTime Player, iTunes, or any other media player and unnecessary components. Unlike other slimmed down QuickTime releases, however, this one uses the original installer provided by Apple.

I haven't spent much time trying to get this to work as a silent installer, but for some reason it would never work right for me. It seemed like less work to just click a few buttons when I want to install this. But a multi-mode installer totally solves that problem. Thank you sir.

I've always used the switches " /S /v/qn " with the official .exe from WPIW with no problems at all.
The official x64 package installs with the -ai switch.

I'll wait until Shark007's next update to release a version that will require you to add a switch to the installer to make it work with your preferred language (but if all goes right, it will default to English).

Maybe a moot question, but in what order should these two files be installed?

Thanks

Doesn't matter, but VCP first, and QTL second is what I always do.

20090131 - Updated Vista Codec Pack to 5.1.1. Also changed compression method, which yielded a reduction in file size by almost 1 MB (from 12.4 to 11.6).
