RogueSpear's Standard Installer V6.5.2
Multimode Installer - 43.3MB
MD5: 14159dcd9ea5268980a5372ee93185ca

Last Updated: 20100620
Description: This is the installer that I use in all of my installs, both at and outside of work. What this installer does is put all of the little utilities and accessories that I might want to use when troubleshooting any sort of issue on someone's computer. It also drops a lot of command line utilities into system32 so that they're available to use in scripts and a few accessories that people have found to be useful in everyday use.

For those who remember, this was originally an addon that first saw the light of day here over two years ago. I eventually removed it completely when SysInternals changed their EULA so that you can only use their freeware by first providing a blood sample.

I will update this installer monthly(ish). There are far too many things that get updated all the time for me to be putting out multiple releases per week. I have not documented the version numbers of individual utilities below because there are too many and they update too frequently. And finally, this installer is definitely not for everyone. There's an awful lot of personal preference and taste built into this one and I'm sure that for quite a few people, my personal preferences and tastes are quite different from their own.

Start Menu Shortcuts: You'll notice that there are a ton of shortcuts created with folders nested under Administrative Tools. I do this because standard users are far less likely to find, and subsequently use, any of those items. Like I stated above in the description, this addon is heavily focused on putting diagnostic and troubleshooting utilities in an installation so that an admin or otherwise knowledgeable person can get right down to troubleshooting should the need arise. It's quite easy enough to simply move or copy a folder of shortcuts to wherever you like. I do this myself when I perform an install for a computer that is for my own use.

Also of special note and interest - any shortcut for Internet Explorer is specially designed to launch using a command line utility made by the incredibly talented n7epsilon. The utility is called RunRestricted.exe and it has the same functionality as SysInternals psexec.exe with the -l switch. What this does is execute Internet Explorer with user rights even when you are logged into Windows with an account that has Administrator rights.

Whoa! And I thought my own personal addon (which comes in at a shade over 10MB) was big! :)

Thanks for sharing this, RogueSpear. I remember your addon from Ryan's board, so seeing this again was a nice surprise. Now to download and hack... er "learn" from it. :) Your list of included programs has given me quite a few good ideas that I hadn't considered before, so thanks for that too.

20080502 - Updated the Standard Addon to v3.8.6 (v3.8.5 was not posted)

RogueSpear, many thanks for all you do. Too often, I know it goes unrecognized.

I did want you to know that I was "UN-modifying" your Standard Addon for my own use, and I discovered that RSADDONS.INF seems to be missing the following line:

under [SourceDisksFiles].

rmma.ini = 1

I looked back, and the same line hasn't been in v3.8.4 or v3.8.3 either. I came to the conclusion the line was needed when I ran the addon on my current system, post setup, and it complained it couldn't find the file. After I added the above line, it ran to completion. I assume the line is needed? Anyway, I might be totally off, being somewhat of a newbie to addons, but if I'm right I thought you should know.

While I'm here, just curious, but do you not find any of the other SysInternals Suite files worth installing?

Oh by the way, I looked at the new Notepad2 v2.0.19, downloaded from the website, and it requires an included INI file and does not seem to have code65536's changes from his custom build, just to let those who were curious know. However, the file you include in RogueSpear's Direct Update Addon V1.1.4, does not use an INI, DOES have code65536's code folding, and under "ABOUT" says it is 2.0.18/modified. I'm confused. Clarification please?

Cheers and regards

Ok, I'll check into that one. It might have been a casualty of working on two almost identical .inf files simultaneously.

There's quite a bit of Sysinternals stuff in there as it is. What exactly do you think should be there that isn't? I will say however that if I can find a comparable utility from someone other than Sysinternals, I'll use it instead. This is partly practical and partly philosophical. First, if it's not from Sysinternals, chances are that I can include it in the addon. Second, I hate the Sysinternals EULA and I wasn't so pleased that they sold out to Microsoft. There's no denying the excellent programming that have gone into their tools, but it's a shame they've taken the road that they have.

You never need the .ini file. The program will create it on first run. That's too bad that Code's modifications didn't make it into subsequent versions either. I'm probably going to stick with the newest version as it fixes a good deal of issues. Here's the thing - I use Notepad2 as my general notepad replacement, but I don't use it so much for coding or scripting. I tend to use either Notepad++ or PrimalScript for that, so the code folding additions to Notepad2, while nice to have, isn't going to kill me when it's missing. Further, Notepad++ is just way too much so far as a notepad replacement goes IMO. It would confuse the hell out of my non-technical users. Lastly, if 2.0.18 is somehow included with my latest Direct Update addon, then that's an error on my part which I'll look into tonight.

I appreciate it. I definitely have "been there, done that"!

Yes, Notepad++ is fairly "fully featured". I didn't know anything about PrimalScript. It certainly looks to be enterprise worthy. On a personal note and with a more limited budget, I find EditPad Pro to be one of the pieces of software worth paying for. There is a free version available, but the pro version adds some editing features I find worthwhile.

Thanks again for all you do and your prompt response. Always a pleasure. Cheers and regards.

PS -- On a TOTALLY unrelated note, is the clock on the board way off, or is it me? Maybe a Daylight Savings thing or something? I know, I'm weird, some things just drive me nuts! Have a good one.

The default timezone is US Eastern. I imagine something is not right with the DST settings. In the event that you haven't noticed (it may be buried somewhere not so easy to find), you can change the timezone to whatever you like in your profile settings.

# Fixed the missing rmma.ini=1 issue as reported by forum member bphlpt

Hey, cool! A credit by RogueSpear! Thanks!

As far as my previous comments about my thinking that your latest version of Notepad2 was still v2.0.18 somehow, here's my dumb "pilot errors" that had caused me to believe that, to keep others from making the same mistake. First, I also missed that you had unUPXed the file so the size difference threw me for a while. Then, I already had the 2.0.18/modified version installed, replacing the standard Notepad. So when I downloaded your file and executed it to check it out, thanks to the magic of system files I guess, even though I thought I was executing your new Notepad, I was actually executing my installed Notepad, the old one. This happens no matter where, or on what disk the new file happens to be. In fact, if you simply rename just about any executable file, in any location or on any disk in your system, the nlite installer "nLite-1.4.5.installer.exe" for example, to "notepad.exe", when you try to execute that file you will actually execute your regular system Notepad instead. Damn those system files! Anyway, all my own fault.

The default timezone is US Eastern. I imagine something is not right with the DST settings. In the event that you haven't noticed (it may be buried somewhere not so easy to find), you can change the timezone to whatever you like in your profile settings.

You were right. I'm also in the eastern US, but I didn't realize that the DST setting wasn't set to automatic. Now all is fine.

Thanks again for all you do, especially your continuing updates. Cheers and regards.

Re: RogueSpear's Addon Collection

Postby solarpower » Fri May 16, 2008 2:06 pm

I am quite new in all the slipstreaming but i found out your addon packs and they look very nice to me.
But i am having problems putting everything together.
What i did:
Slipstreamed sp3 into my sp2 disk so now i have a clean sp3 source.

Then i am using Nlite to integrate the following packs:

SP3 Update pack v2.1.0 (from the Ryanvm forum)
Onepiece IE7 v2.1.1
RogueSpear's XP SP2 Direct Update Addon V1.1.5
RogueSpear's Standard Addon (modified) V3.8.7
RogueSpear's Power User Addon V1.3.4

After Nlite i use boogy wmp11 slipstreamer to slipstream wmp11 and all hotfixes.

But when i install with the disc I just made I don`t see any of the addons installed. All the specified folders don`t exist.

Probably I am messing it up but if I can get some directions about what i need to use and how i would be very happy.

Thanks you :D

Right off the bat.. if you've slipstreamed XP SP3 into your source then you should be using my XP SP3 Direct Update Addon V1.1.5 and NOT the SP2 version. When you say you don't see any of the addons installed, what exactly do you mean? Lastly, I have not tested any of my addons with nLite, but I do know that some of them will not work with nLite, only the Integrator. The ones you have listed should all work with nLite, but I can't make any guarantees.

When you say you don't see any of the addons installed, what exactly do you mean? Lastly, I have not tested any of my addons with nLite, but I do know that some of them will not work with nLite, only the Integrator. The ones you have listed should all work with nLite, but I can't make any guarantees.

Thanks for your quick response!

From all the addons installed i can only open notepad2, calculator is completely missing.
And the big addon packs (with all the utilities) are missing.
Start Menu Shortcuts: You'll notice that there are a ton of shortcuts created with folders nested under Administrative Tools.

Nothing is created at all.
I will try to use RVMI later to see if that solves everything. So if i am correct adding all packs as addon packs (In RVMI) is really the correct way to integrate everything?

Also thanks for pointing me out i need the sp3 version, completely missed that

I haven't read through this thread so you might already know this, but I'm pretty sure there is a compatibility issue with either the PowerUser or Standard pack and SP3. I've been trying like Hell to debug all of my SP3 issues, and as it turns out, I've been able to slowly add back all of my addons with no problem, except for those two packs. Once I add them, I get all sorts of errors: framedyn.dll errors, some WMP11 missing file error, IE gets broken; the works. I've stuck your addons on the back burner for now since I've got everything else squared away. I'll try to debug these problems more thoroughly when I get some time. Just thought I'd give you a heads up in case you got some ideas.

I'm going to put out some updates today, though I doubt they'll make much of a difference. My best estimate at this point is that I'll start to do some serious SP3 testing in about two weeks. I'm winding down another couple of projects at work, one of which involves some major network equipment upgrades. Once the cutover is made, my next project here is to get SP3 tested, debugged, and ready for deployment.

For what it's worth, I added both the Standard pack (unmodified by me for my own use) and the PowerUser pack to my existing XP SP3 system post setup, and have not experienced any of the problems that dumpydooby has. Not sure what differences post setup versus using the AddOn on your install disc would cause, just thought I'd add another information point.

Cheers and Regards.

Let me know if you need help. I've been really busy doing a lot of leisure coding lately. I'd rather spend that leisure time helping you out because you've provided so much great stuff for me.

Thanks for the update. But I seem to have problems installing it.
3.8.7 installed fine without any problem but this release gives me an error during setup: Please insert RogueSpearsaddonFiles into drive D. (a little different but i think you know what i mean)
I can browse for files but i have no idea to browse for what so press cancel and setup continues.

After setup completes nothing from the addonpack is installed.

Any ideas?
