License: Freeware
Installs From: svcpack.inf
Installs To: %PROGRAMFILES%\iTunes (Default)
Shortcut: Programs\Multimedia
Last Updated: 20100620

Description: Buy music, movies, TV shows, and audiobooks, or download free podcasts from the iTunes Store 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Organize and play everything on your Mac or PC. Then sync it to your iPod or iPhone and bring it along. Anywhere.

Notes:
  • This is an English only release.
  • All instances of Microsoft C Runtime files have been removed. You will need to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package prior to running iTunes.
  • The iTunesHelper.exe module has not been removed from the installation package, but it's HKLM run entry has as I can't seem to find out the exact purpose of this memory hogging module. iTunes seems to run just fine for me without it.
  • QuickTime is not included. It is not necessary to install QuickTime before this installer, but you will need to install either Apple's QuickTime or QuickTime Alternative before running iTunes.
  • The Apple Mobile Device Support component needed for the iPhone and iPod Touch is installed by default. Please review the command line options if you do not want to install this component. If you use the installer switchless and do not want AMDS installed, just click on the cancel button when the dialog box for it's installation appears. Then continue on with installing the main iTunes application.
  • The Apple Software Update module is not included.
  • Bonjour is not included and is not necessary at all unless you have an AppleTV or do some sort of network sharing of your iTunes library.
  • As of v8.0.2.20, the fully interactive and with billboards mode of installation has been restored. I finally seem to have figured out Apple's new structure in the .msi file.
  • As of v9.0.2.25 it appears as though the "Apple Application Support" module is needed for iTunes to run.

Thanks for the release. I have an 30gb ipod video, and i dont like downloading the whole ipod installer package (56,4MB).

By the way, the file difference in two installers (multimode and msi) is too big. I think the reason is the compression of 7zip thats used in multimode. But, of course, only you can tell the real difference

Cheers

The difference is because of two things really. First, when you remove components from a solid .msi file, the .msi file itself does not get any smaller. The removed files remain, but the instruction table will not install them. When you create an administrative install from an .msi, those removed files will not be included. Since the .exe installers are based in admin installs, there are actually less "files" so to speak.

Second is that the solid .msi file employs compression on it's own. It's not a very effective compression, but it's enough to make 7-Zip or RAR pretty ineffective.

This situation also appears with the Adobe Reader downloads. I remove some components from that as well, mainly Microsoft runtimes, and so the .msi is a larger download than the optimized and 7-Zipped .exe installer.

First of all, thanks RogueSpear for continuing to update this, despite your dislike of the program.

Secondly, I think that the link to the multimode installer is incorrect, as it still points to iTunes7619.exe instead of the expected iTunes7629.exe. I did download the installer, and the files inside it seem to be from February, not late March/early April that I expected. Could you check this please?

Thanks again for your work on this and the other installers,

FYI: I will not be posting installers for the initial release of iTunes 8. It is a major pain in the neck dealing with that program, so I'm going to wait for the inevitable bug fix release that will surely follow.

Updated to V8.0.0.35

20080922 - Updated to V8.0.0.35

Well I have to put together a couple of install sources that will each need iTunes on them, so my hand was forced at creating this installer now (I wanted to wait for whatever came after the initial v8.x release). Apple is doing their best to make this more difficult with each release :x

Please see the Notes section of the initial post for updated information specific to this version.

I was wondering if for the time being, you could make the last 7.x version of your installer available again (alongside 8.x) seeing as 8 has too many problems by the sounds and looks of it? Pretty please?

If you have a reason not to, I understand.

Well I don't have it anymore. Literally - gone. I tested v8 for a couple of hours, and while the program sucks just as bad as any previous version, it does seem to "work"; and I used the term loosely.

20081122 - Updated to V8.0.2.20

Please review the notes in the main post as some things have changed. Also it seems Apple has decided to place the FairPlay module in the main iTunes installation which means it will be unnecessary for it to be in the QuickTime Alternative installer. I'll be releasing a refresh of that later sans the CoreFP library.

I believe the ituneshelper is used to autolaunch itunes when an ipod is connected. I believe it does more with ipods too, but I'm not sure.
